Tone

The sun was shining through the hospital blinds. It was sort of blinding but it sure helped my mood for the better. The warm morning sun felt real good on my skin. I turned my head slowly even though the staples had been removed a few years back. I still would get these sharp pains in the same spots where the staples used to be.

Everything about my whole life has changed ever since I was in this huge car accident. I don't remember how my life was prior to the accident or even being involved in the car accident at all. I have asked the nurses who I was in the car with and they all said a woman but that was all they knew. I would have these horrific dreams that I didn't understand. Sometimes they would be so intense that I couldn't tell if it actually happened or if it was just a dream.

In all the years that I have been in the hospital not one single person came to visit me. No family or friends at all so I guess no one cared about or loved me. I had to learn to walk, talk, sit up and learn how to speak read and write all over again just like a baby. This all happened to me when I was just twenty years old. I met this one nurse and her name is Mr. Rose and she treats me just like a son. She is the only family that I have had for the past ten years.

One day while Mrs. Rose was wheeling me to physical therapy she told me that she always wanted to have another child. She says she never did because her husband didn't want to have anymore children. So I guess it was meant for us to adopt each other. She was real sweet to me like how I always imagined a mother would be. Affectionate, loving, caring, nurturing and compassionate.

She invited me to live at her home in the back house once I was released from the hospital. She told me that it was just some temporary help until I was able to manage my life on my own. She was the one that paid my hospital bill to help keep me alive. Out of all of the Hospital staff she was the one that let me know the most detail about my accident. I heard how it all happened in bits and pieces on the days that she worked.

Sometimes after hearing that I was in a vegetable state where I was barely alive mentally or physically would make me very sad. Sometimes as soon as she would leave I would cry. It hurt to know that I was the hospitals Frankenstein sort of human project in the neurology, mental and behavioral health departments. The hospital was drying different medications on me. My doctor and Mrs. Rose told me it was a good idea to help with the depression that I was experiencing.

It would also help lower the hospital bills that Mrs.
